In memory of his mother who suffered from Alzheimer's disease, U.S. Senator Jay Rockefeller established the Blanchette Rockefeller Neurosciences Institute (BRNI), a not-for-profit research institution that partners with government and private enterprise in the search for cures for brain disorders, especially those affecting memory.
The goal of the institute is to understand diseases of human memory, develop treatments, and ultimately prevent these diseases altogether.
Construction of the 84,000 square-foot, three-story building began in May 2006. The facility will provide state-of-the-art laboratory space and will support research activities of up to 150 scientists. Anticipated occupancy of the facility is spring 2008.
