Environmental Services

Environmental Services provides housekeeping services in multiple buildings on a 24/7 basis. This department is often considered the backbone of the hospital due to the vital role the housekeeping assistants play in maintaining a clean, safe and attractive environment. The scope of services includes general cleaning, trash removal, furniture moving, pest control, and exterior and interior window washing. Staff members maintain about 800,000 square feet of space.

Nutrition Services

Ruby Memorial Hospital — The Nutrition Services staff provides food for patients, visitors and staff 24/7. Employees assigned to Dietary Patient Services may be responsible for a variety of tasks, including assembling meal trays, assisting patients with meal selection, and washing dishes. In the Ruby Cafeteria, most employees are involved in directly serving customers, either as cashiers, servers, cooks or stockers. The production area is where most food preparation occurs – hot and cold food for the cafeteria and patient meal service.

WVU Health Sciences Building — Nutrition Services operates the Health Sciences Center Cafeteria and Basic Sciences Cafeteria. This kitchen staff provides all cooking, baking, serving and cleaning services. In addition, the staff provides catering and vending services for both the Health Sciences Building and Ruby Memorial Hospital.

Chestnut Ridge Center — Nutrition Services operates a small kitchen and cafeteria for the clients and staff of Chestnut Ridge Center. Due to the smaller scope of this area, employees here do a variety of tasks in a typical day, including cooking, assembling patient meal trays and delivering to units, serving customers and patients in the cafeteria, delivering supplies to the nursing units, washing dishes, putting away deliveries, removing trash, and general cleaning.

Linen Services

Linen Services performs all activities associated with the retrieval of soiled linen, laundering, and distribution of clean linen for various departments of WVUH. Linen Services employees operate a variety of computer-controlled equipment in order to make sure the linens are cleaned in the most effective and efficient manner possible.
