10 East (10E)
- Unit specialty is cardiology, cardio-thoracic surgery, and vascular surgery.
- The bed capacity is 31 with 13 floor and 18 step-down.
- Types of patients on this unit include chest pain, acute MIs, dysrhythmias, CHF, post-op coronary artery bypass, CEA, ICDs, PTCA/Stent, and post-op lungs.
- The unit houses the telemetry surveillance center responsible for monitoring up to 271 in house patients.
10 West (10W)
- Unit specialty is cardiology, cardio-thoracic surgery.
- The bed capacity is 19 step-down.
- Types of patients on this unit include chest pain, acute MIs, dysrhythmias, CHF, post-op coronary artery bypass, CEA, ICDs, PTCA/Stent, and post-op lungs.
SNU/Skilled Nursing Unit
- Unit specialty is skilled nursing.
- The bed capacity is 20.
- Types of patients on this unit include rehab/restorative care to long term antibiotic therapy, palliative care, and wound care, education.
9 East/Epilepsy Monitoring Unit (9E)
- Unit specialty is neurology and neurosurgery.
- The bed capacity is 33 with 17 acute care, 6 EMU and 9 step-down beds.
- The EMU has state-of -the-art Epilepsy Monitoring with video EEG and admits both adult and pediatric patients.
- 9 East is the acute stroke unit and is a key component of the WVUH Primary Stroke Center.
- Types of patients on 9 East may include strokes, seizures, traumatic and non-traumatic head bleeds, brain tumors with craniotomies, and spinal surgeries.
- Neurosurgery patients from all over the world are cared for on this unit as part of the WVUH International Patient Program.
9 West/Oncology Center (9W)
- Unit specialty is adult hematology/oncology.
- The bed capacity is 20.
- Types of patients on this unit include leukemia, lung cancer, Hodgkin’s disease, Non-Hodgkin’s disease, lymphomas, breast cancer, triage care and supportive care for neutropenic fevers and outpatient services such as dressing changes, injections, (G-CSF injection), blood transfusion and lab draws.
Blood and Marrow Transplant Unit (BMTU)
- Unit specialty is adult oncology transplantation.
- The bed capacity is 12.
- Types of patients on this unit include Autologous and allogeneic transplantation, stem cell transplantation, matched unrelated donor transplantation, and syngeneic transplantation.
- Other services include: high dose chemotherapy, total body irradiation, Leukopheresis, and stem cell apheresis.
- In addition, outpatient services (BMOP patients) are provided including but not limited to apheresis, transplantation, dressing changes, intravenous line care, blood transfusions, injections, and lab draws.
Observation Unit
- The Observation unit is unique among the medical/surgical nursing units.
- The observation unit is a 10 bed unit designed for patients with anticipated hospital stays less than 24 hours.
- Patients are assigned to the Observation unit based on diagnosis and admission criteria.
- Assignments can be a wide range of services both medical and surgical such as medicine, cardiology, pain, ENT, extended recovery, etc. Our patient care team includes RN’s, clinical associates, and unit clerks dedicated to quality patient care in a fast paced setting.
8 East (8E)
- 8 East is a dynamic medical/surgical unit.
- The bed capacity is 34.
- We care for patients with complex acute and chronic medical conditions which include the following: Chest pain, Telemetry monitored, Renal Failure, Cystic Fibrosis, Diabetes, Wound care, and Pneumonia.
8 West (8W)
- Unit specialty is medical/surgical with Telemetry.
- The bed capacity is 24.
- This unit provides medical care for patients with complex acute or chronic medical conditions and patients recovering from surgery.
- The patient population includes medical specialties such as cardiac, pulmonary, renal, gastrointestinal, genitourinary and endocrine disorders. Our surgical specialties include ENT (Ear, Nose and Throat), Gynecology and Urology.
8 North East (8NE)
- Unit specialty is medical/surgical/trauma and bariatric step-down.
- 8 Northeast has 24 private rooms with state of the art monitoring capabilities with 4 rooms that are specifically designed to provide better comfort for the bariatric population.
- Types of patients include complex medical patients, traumatic injuries, general surgical interventions and complex wounds.
Dialysis
- Located on the 4th Floor, the Renal Dialysis unit is a 10-bed treatment area.
- We provide inpatient and outpatient services to adult and pediatric clients.
- We perform hemodialysis, peritoneal dialysis, continuous renal replacement therapy and therapeutic plasma exchange for patients.
- As part of our outpatient commitment, we are a member of the Mid-Atlantic Renal coalition (MARC).
7 East (7E)
- 7 East consists of 33 beds and is an acute medical/surgical unit that specializes in the care of the trauma and surgical patient.
- Types of patients on 7East include motor vehicle accidents, falls, gun shot wounds, colon resections, cholecystectomy, appendectomy, Nissen (lap), gastric bypass (lap and open), thyroidectomy, mastectomy, Whipple procedure, and facial facture repairs.
7 West (7W)
- Unit specialties include adult orthopedic surgeries, plastic surgeries, and ophthalmology services.
- 7 West is a 32 bed, telemetry-equipped unit.
- Our orthopedic specialties include the care of total hip and knee replacements, ankle, femur, spine, shoulder, and femur repairs.
6 East/Pediatrics (6E)
- Unit specialty is medical/surgical pediatrics.
- The bed capacity is 27.
- Types of patients include oncology, surgical and medical, cardiac, cystic fibrosis, anorexic, trauma, orthopedic, neurology and neurosurgery, diabetes and all pediatric sub-specialties.
Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU)
- Unit specialty is complex cardiac and neurosurgery and trauma.
- The bed capacity is 19, which included ICU and Step Down beds.
- Types of patients include post-op, medical/surgical management of all pediatric subspecialties.
Newborn Intensive Care (NICU)
- Unit specialty is critical care management of premature infants.
- The bed capacity is 39 with 20 intensive and 19 step down.
- Types of patients include premature infants.
Maternal and Infant Care Center (MICC)
- Unit specialty is maternity care from conception through delivery.
- The unit consists of 8 LDR/5 LDRP, and 17 antepartum/postpartum rooms.
- Types of patients include high-risk obstetrics and term deliveries.
Medical/Surgical Intensive Care (MICU/SICU)
- Unit specialty is surgery/medicine.
- The bed capacity is 12 SICU and 18 MICU.
- Types of patients include trauma, neurosurgery, vascular, general surgery, general medicine, stroke, pulmonary, metabolic disease and renal disease.
Cardiac Care/Cardio-Thoracic Intensive Care (CTU/CCU)
- Unit specialty is cardiology and cardio-thoracic surgery.
- The bed capacity is 22.
- Types of patients include myocardial infarction, cardiac procedures, cardiac disorder and post operative CABGs, valves, thoracotomies.
Care Management
- The Care Management Department serves all patient populations at WVUH.
- The department, consisting of nurses, medical social workers and other key members, work collaboratively with the patient’s multidisciplinary team of physicians, bedside nurses, therapy services and other members of the health care team to ensure insurance companies approve the patient’s hospital stay, and that any services the patient may require for a safe discharge are approved and arranged.
Peri-Operative Services
- Unit specialty is surgical services inclusive of open-heart preparation and recovery for operative patients.
- There are 18 main ORs, 30 main recovery, 8 outpatient ORs, 2 cystoscopy suites, 61 pre/post outpatient recovery, and 4 endoscopy suites.
- Types of patients include surgical services for adults and children from T&A's to open-heart surgery.
- Additional services provided are pain procedures and recovery of patients after interventional radiology.
Emergency Department (ED)
- Unit specialty in adult and pediatric emergency services, Level I Trauma Center, Primary Stroke Center, Medical Command and Emergency Air Transport services.
- There are 26 treatment rooms and state of the art resuscitation rooms which were just completed in 2006.
Mary Babb Randolph Cancer Center (MBRCC)
- Unit specialty is adult outpatient oncology services.
- There are 30 treatment rooms in the newly completed infusion center while renovations in the clinic to expand from 17 exam rooms to 32 exam rooms and 3 procedure rooms are underway.
- Types of patients include patients with primary diagnosis of breast cancer, lung cancer, lymphomas, hematological disorders, brain tumors, and leukemia.
- The clinic also provides services to gynecology/oncology, surgical/oncology, dermatology for skin cancers and MOHS surgery, blood and marrow transplantation/hematologic malignancies, and hematology/oncology.
- The clinic provides multidisciplinary clinics for lung and breast cancers, blood and marrow transplantation/hematologic malignancies, and brain tumors.
- Other services include: colposcopy, blood transfusion, lab draws, line care, chemotherapy administration, injections, and fluid hydration.
Chestnut Ridge Center (CRC)
- Chestnut Ridge Center’s specialty is psychiatric and chemical dependency.
- The Center consists of an acute adolescent unit, adult unit, dual diagnosis unit and psychiatric intensive care unit.
- It also has a residential treatment center and a day hospital.
Nursing Resource Pool
- Nurses are assigned to work on critical care or medical surgical units based on their skill set
