The Friends Gift Shop
Friends Proceeds
The proceeds from the Gift Shop are used to fund a number patient care and comfort projects that are chosen by the Friends of WVU Hospitals auxiliary.
- Tea cart for the Mary Babb Randolph Cancer Center — Volunteers provide tea, coffee, and snacks to patients and families during their outpatient visit to the Mary Babb Randolph Cancer Center.
- Diversional therapy with LouAnn Morman — MaryAnn visit’s patients and distributes pre-packaged craft kits to individuals needing projects to occupy their time. Volunteers give instructional guidance on a one-to-one basis or in a group setting.
Comfort toys — Friends Gift Shop and Gund team up to provide toys for children who are having same day surgery. Gund makes regular donations and Friends supplements the Gund gifts by donating $1000 toward the purchase of stuffed animals for the program.
- Music therapy — Friends provides a music therapy program for the patients. They fund the salary of WVUH Harpist, Howdy Emerson. Mr. Emerson goes room-to-room and also performs at the Rosenbaum Family House. His services can be requested through the Chaplains office at 598-4185. Friends Gift Shop carries CD’s by Mr. Emerson:
- Mediations on the Redwood Coast
- Reflections Music From the Celtic Tradition of the Wire Strung Harp
- WVUH Connect — This service, courtesy of the Friends of WVU Hospitals, provides free internet access to patients and family members that have their own laptop computers. The funding came from the sale of items in the Gift Shop.
- WVUH Welcome Channel — an ambitious new project that will provide important information to patients utilizing the in-room television system and digital signage for both employees and visitors to WVUH. The funding comes from the sale of items in the Gift Shop.
