Robert Gustafson, MD, is a leading specialist in pediatric cardiology and the co-director of the WVU Children's
Hospital Pediatric Heart Institute. "Helping children with heart problems is extremely rewarding," says Dr. Gustafson.

Dr. Gustafson completed his medical degree and advanced training in general and thoracic surgery at WVU.
He completed a fellowship in pediatric cardiac surgery at Children's Hospital Medical Center in Boston,
Massachusetts, and then returned to join the WVU faculty.
Dr. Gustafson is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons and the American Academy of Pediatrics.
He has served as a guest manuscript reviewer for the Annals of Thoracic Surgery and the Journal of
Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery. He has also served as a participating surgeon for the Gift of Life
Cardiac Surgery Project. He has published and researched on cardiopulmonary bypass in infants, and the use of
