American Heart Association award
Xuefang "Sophie" Ren, Ph.D., research assistant professor and director of the Experimental Stroke Core, was recently awarded the GRA Winter 2016 Scientist Development Grant from the American Heart Association.
These funds, raised by volunteers who fight and advocate for research, will be crucial to the progress of Ren's research and will support those who assist in her research. The award is a three year award with a total funding opportunity of $231,000. The title of her winning grant is "MiR-34a and Mitochondria in Blood-Brain Barrier and Stroke."
Along with her role as Director, she is also a research assistant professor in the Department of Physiology and Pharmacology where her research focus includes stroke and immunology, stroke and mitochondria, stroke and micoRNAs, and brain repair and functional recovery after stroke.
