Many experts expect that eventually Cardiac CT Scans will be used for early detection of heart disease much as mammography is used today to detect breast cancer. However, most insurance plans do not currently cover the cost of a Cardiac CT Scan for patients who are not already experiencing significant symptoms of heart disease.
AT WVU Hospitals, we use Cardiac CT Scanning for patients who arrive with apparent heart attacks or other potentially serious heart problems, and insurance generally covers such uses.
Patients who want to have a 64-Slice Cardiac CT Scan performed for purposes of prevention and early detection are usually responsible for covering the cost of payment themselves.
