Shortly after the seminar, the bariatric surgery coordinator and surgeons will review the information you provided on the Surgical Weight Loss Medical Inventory. An appointment will be scheduled for you to meet with the surgeon. At this visit, the surgeon will review your medical history, describe the different types of weight loss surgery, and begin to discuss which might be best for you. If indicated by your medical history, you may need to undergo additional testing and/or evaluations with other medical specialists. Screening tests done before surgery help your surgeon best plan for your surgery and follow-up care. You will meet with a psychologist and a dietitian as well.
After all tests have been completed, the information is submitted to your insurance company. Once the insurance company pre-authorize surgery, it can be scheduled three weeks prior to your surgery date, appointments are scheduled with the surgeon, dietitian, and Pre-Admission Testing. This is the final step before surgery and is an opportunity to have your questions answered and to learn more about what to expect after surgery.
