John F. Brick, MD, Department ChairJohn F. Brick, MD, Department Chair
Dr. John F. Brick did his advanced specialty training in electroencephalography at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN. His areas of expertise include epilepsy, EEG, cerebrovascular disease, and seizure surgery, and he is an expert in the treatment and evaluation of patients with epilepsy. He is board certified in neurology and EEG by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology and the American Board of Clinical Neurophysiology.

Claudette E. Brooks, MDClaudette E. Brooks, MD
Dr. Claudette E. Brooks serves as director of the WVU Neurovascular Lab and the Women's Stroke Clinic, which is part of the WVU Center of Excellence in Women's Health. She is a member of the WVU Stroke Center Team, the Stroke Clinic, and the Stroke Research Clinic. Dr. Brooks did advanced training in cerebrovascular disease at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN.

Cathrin M. Buetefisch, MDCathrin M. Buetefisch, MD
Dr. Cathrin M. Buetefisch did her advanced training in neurology at the National Institute of Neurological Disorder and Stroke and the Neurological Therapeutic Center and Department of Neurology at Heinrich-Heine University in Düsseldorf, Germany. She specializes in the treatment of movement disorders, and is board certified by the American Board of Neurology.

Shubhangi Chitnis, MDShubhangi Chitnis, MD
Dr. Shubhangi Chitnis is a pediatric neurologist who ran a private pediatrics practice in Phaltan, India, for six years before completing her pediatrics residency at Texas Tech Health Sciences Center in Amarillo, TX. Prior to joining WVU, Dr. Chitnis completed a residency in pediatric neurology at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem, NC.

Laurie Gutmann, MDLaurie Gutmann, MD
Dr. Laurie Gutmann is medical director the EMG Laboratory, the ALS Clinic, and the Neuromuscular Disease Clinic, and is co-director of the Muscular Dystrophy Association Clinic. Dr. Gutmann did advanced training in neurology, neuromuscular diseases, and EMG at the University of Virginia in Charlottesville. Her special interests include neuromuscular diseases, dystonias, clinical neurophysiology, and EMG. She is board certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology and the American Board of Electrodiagnostic Medicine.

Ludwig Gutmann, MDLudwig Gutmann, MD
Dr. Ludwig Gutmann has held the title of Hazel Ruby McQuain Professor of Neurology at WVU since 1996. He completed a neurophysiology fellowship at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN. Dr. Gutmann continues to serve as examiner for the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology, a position he has held for more than three decades. He also serves on the ACGME's Panel for Accreditation Appeals, and is on the medical advisory board for the Myasthenia Gravis Foundation. Dr. Gutmann's board certifications include the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology, including added qualifications in clinical neurophysiology, and the American Board of Electro-Diagnostic Medicine. He has expertise in neuromuscular diseases, clinical neurophysiology, EMG, myasthenia gravis, and Parkinson's disease.

Mark Haut, PhD, ABPP, CNMark Haut, PhD, ABPP, CN  
Dr. Mark Haut completed advanced specialty training at the University of Missouri and West Virginia University. He has board certifications in psychology and clinical neuropsychology. His special interests include neuropsychological testing for dementia, Alzheimer's disease, and schizophrenia.

Margaret E. Jaynes, MDMargaret E. Jaynes, MD
Dr. Margaret E. Jaynes did advanced specialty training in pediatrics and pediatric neurology at WVU, where she is co-director of the Muscular Dystrophy Association Clinic. In addition to her professorship in the Neurology Department, Dr. Jaynes has a joint appointment with the Department of Pediatrics. She has advanced specialty training in the diagnosis and treatment of children with epilepsy. Her special interests are in child neurology and attention-deficit disorders. She is board certified in neurology and child neurology

David P. Libell, MDDavid P. Libell, MD
Director of WVU's Comprehensive Stroke Unit, Dr. David P. Libell specializes in stroke, neuromuscular diseases, and clinical neurophysiology. He did his advanced specialty training at WVU where he completed a fellowship in neurophysiology. Dr. Libell holds certification from the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology, and the NIH Human Participant Protections Education for Research Teams. He is a task force member of the West Virginia Cardiovascular Health Program.

Christopher Scott Nance, MDChristopher Scott Nance, MD
With advanced training in peripheral nerve disease and clinical neurophysiology/ electromyography from the Mayo Graduate School of Medicine in Rochester, MN, Dr. Christopher S. Nance is an expert in disorders that affect the nerves. He holds American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology certification.

Adriana E. Palade, MDAdriana E. Palade, MD
As director of the EEG/Epilepsy Laboratory, Dr. Adriana E. Palade specializes in diagnosing and treating patients with epilepsy. She completed advanced training in clinical neurophysiology at Duke University Medical Center in Durham, NC, and has expertise in evaluating patients for seizure surgery. Dr. Palade is certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology.

Gauri Pawar, MDGauri Pawar, MD
Dr. Gauri Pawar completed her advanced medical training in clinical neurophysiology at WVU. She holds American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology certification with an added qualification in clinical neurophysiology, and is a member of the National Institutes of Health Data Safety Monitoring Board. Dr. Pawar's areas of specialty include stroke rehabilitation and neurophysiology.

Jack E. Riggs, MDJack E. Riggs, MD
Dr. Jack E. Riggs is vice chair of the Department of Neurology at WVU. He holds board certification from both the American Board of Internal Medicine and the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. Before coming to WVU, Dr. Riggs completed advanced specialty training at the University of Rochester School of Medicine Strong Memorial Hospital in New York. He has expertise in neuromuscular diseases and neuroepidemiology.

Alejandro Torres-Trejo, MDAlejandro Torres-Trejo, MD
Dr. Alejandro Torres-Trejo has advanced training in neuro-oncology, which he completed at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York, and at the University of California, Los Angeles. Dr. Torres-Trejo also completed a fellowship in epilepsy at WVU. He is board certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology.

Tracy L. Weimer, MD, PhDTracy L. Weimer, MD, PhD
After completing a fellowship in the Neurology Department's clinical neurophysiology program, Dr. Tracy L. Weimer joined the WVU faculty. She did her doctoral work in pharmacology/toxicology at WVU focusing on the carcinogenicity and DNA repair of the chemical 7, 12-Dimethylbenz(a)anthracene. Dr. Weimer did her post-doctoral fellowship work at WVU's Mary Babb Randolph Cancer Center. She is board certified in medicine.

John A. Young, MDJohn A. Young, MD
Dr. John A. Young holds joint appointments in the WVU Departments of Neurology and Psychiatry. He serves as medical director of the neuropsychiatry program at Morgantown's Chestnut Ridge Center, where he is also a neurology and neuropsychiatry consultant, and as medical director of the WVU Sleep Laboratory. Dr. Young specializes in developmental neuropsychiatry, Tourette's syndrome, and sleep disorders. He is board certified in neurology and psychiatry.

Suzy Mascaro Walter, CNRN, MSN, CFNPSuzy Mascaro Walter, CNRN, MSN, CFNP
Ms. Suzy M. Walter is a certified family nurse practitioner in WVU's Department of Neurology. She coordinates and manages care for pediatric neurology patients.
